Says Martin, “Warren Zevon will be ten years dead on 7 September 2013. ![]() “Forestry was seeking coverage for the Natureline, a corridor of trees being planted around the town of Emerald to reduce spray drift from cotton spraying around the margins of town. Fred Wild, aka Mr Natureline, got all sorts of famous people to plant trees to publicise the scheme.” Martin relates how Zevon had earlier in the day planted a tree in the car park - a temporary location for the publicity photo shoot with the Queensland Forestry Department (who Martin then worked for) and Central Queensland News. Zevon played two songs at the concert, which was held at the football grounds. Tour lists do not mention that Zevon had briefly ventured off the coastal strip, accompanying The Little River Band when they visited Emerald to play at a charity concert following the big flood of that year. Zevon played 23 gigs that year in a tour that visited Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. In his blog page on Zevon, ‘Nu Country guru’ Dave Dawson states, “When Chicago-born singer-songwriter Warren Zevon first toured Australia with (well-known Aussie outfit) The Little River Band in 1990 he soaked up Aussie culture from the shade of the Hilton circuit.” Warren Zevon (holding pick like it’s a hunting rifle) with Forestry Officers Martin Ambrose (left) and Craig Whiteford (right). The program looked good and worked well, until I actually made a GIF and tried to save it to my photo gallery. One exception I’ve tried is GifMill (on iOS). Only thus can you get a copy for yourself. Then you have to “share” the result via the vendor’s “network”. Typically, however, these apps are social networks in themselves: You have to log in and work online. There are a number of mobile apps to generate GIFs from the videos you take with your tablet or smartphone. Sometimes you can overcome these limits by buying their premium service. All the “free” sites I’ve tried have crippling limits: They restrict your file size, your frame rate, your duration, or something else. For example, you can take normal video and upload it to a website that will convert it to GIF for you. Now you can.Īs you’d expect, there are countless ways to generate GIF files, and more appear daily. GIF files are nowadays extremely popular and in high demand. We’re back to the age of silent movies! They’re a medium in which Charlie Chaplin would have felt right at home. Did I mention “silently”? A GIF file, even when it moves, is not true video and therefore doesn’t include sound. Today’s computers easily juggle their large files and multiple frames-per-second. Sometime last year, GIF movies silently roared back into prominence. Heavily overused, these soon became boring and unfashionable. They tended to consist of dancing stick figures or rotating logos. GIF animations were therefore mostly cartoonish. The Columbus family had some success with their first lawsuit, as the 1511 ruling confirmed Diego’s position as viceroy but limited his powers. He and his sons Diego and Fernando then pursued a long series of court cases against the Castilian crown, known as “pleitos colombinos,” claiming that the crown had violated its contractual obligations to Columbus and his heirs. Later, Columbus was arrested and removed from office in 1500. In addition, he would be entitled to one-eighth of the profits from each company in the new states. He would be entitled to 10% of all income from the new lands for life. He had the right to appoint three men, one of whom was chosen by the sovereigns, for each office in the new lands. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella promised Columbus that if he was successful, he would be promoted to admiral and appointed governor of all new lands to which he could lay claim. However, to prevent Columbus from implementing his ideas elsewhere and possibly keeping all his options open, the Catholic kings granted him an annual payment of 12,000 maravedas and in 1489 presented him with a letter requesting all cities under their rule to provide him with free room and board.Īfter constant lobbying at the Spanish court and two years of negotiations, he finally succeeded in January 1492. A year later, scientists in Spain, like their counterparts in Portugal, retorted that Columbus had grossly underestimated the distance to Asia and declared the idea impractical. On May 1, 1486, Columbus presented his plans to Queen Isabella, who in turn forwarded them to a committee. The Spanish CrownĬhristopher Columbus sought an audience with the monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, who had united several kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula through marriage and joint rule. He also sent his brother Bartholomew to Henry VII in England to see if the English crown could finance his expedition, but again without success. After the eastern sea route to Asia was opened, King John obviously had no more interest in Columbus’ far-fetched project.Ĭolumbus traveled from Portugal to Genoa and Venice, but received no support. This meeting also remained unsuccessful, partly because Bartolomeo Dias returned to Portugal soon after with news of the successful circumnavigation of the southern tip of Africa. In 1488, Columbus again approached the Portuguese authorities, which led to John II again inviting him to an audience. They generally believed that Columbus’ estimated distance of 3,860 km was actually too low. The king presented Columbus’ proposal to his experts, who rejected it. Columbus also demanded that he be made “Grand Admiral of the Ocean,” governor of all the lands he would discover, and that he receive one-tenth of all the revenues from those lands. He suggested to the king that he equip three sturdy ships and give Columbus a year to sail across the Atlantic, find a western route to the east, and then return. In 1485 Columbus presented his plans to the Portuguese King John II. With this support, Christopher Columbus was finally able to discover America and put the existence of a very important nation on the world map. When Christopher Columbus set out on his voyage from Spain in the 15th century, he received the important support of three ships and their crews, known today as the ships of Christopher Columbus. At a time when ships were the only fast means of transportation for travel around the world, Christopher Columbus’ ships changed the entire concept of travel by ship. ![]() Christopher Columbus discovered a sailing route to the Americas, a continent then unknown in the Old World, though at the time he believed he had discovered a route to the Far East.Ĭhristopher Columbus was the discoverer of America, but Christopher Columbus’ ships are also undoubtedly worthy of recognition. Based on the work of historians and biographers, it is believed that in his early childhood, Christopher mastered mathematics effortlessly, could express himself in several languages, and had a talent for speaking.Ĭolumbus led the first European expeditions to the Caribbean and Central and South America, initiating the permanent European colonization of the Americas. Classes were held indoors and the children were taught by visiting teachers. Besides Christoph, there were four other children in the family – three younger brothers and a sister. His mother, Susanna Fontanarossa, was the daughter of a weaver and a simple housewife. Columbus’ father, Domenico Colombo, was a shepherd and wool weaver, wine and cheese merchant. There is very little reliable information about the origin of Columbus or even the exact date of birth of the future navigator. Christopher Columbus (Octo– May 20, 1506) was an Italian explorer, navigator and colonist who made four voyages across the Atlantic under the patronage of the Catholic Kings of Spain. ![]()
This drink's got up to 5 oz/150 ml of milk by volume (less by weight, since a lot of it is foam). If you're after the milky, creamy version of coffee then you'll want the cappuccino. So let's talk a little about each drink's particular points, and compare them. They both use espresso and milk, but use them very, very differently.Īnd you get opposite coffee experiences from both. Now you know a little about macchiato and cappuccino, respectively. Main differences between cappuccino and macchiato Which is a different drink, but even easier to make if you've got canned whipped cream in the fridge. That turns the macchiato in espresso con panna. If frothing milk seems too daunting or complicated, then you may cheat a little and use a dollop of whipped cream. Usually no sugar is added, since this is a small drink and most folks just down it in one or two gulps. There's ways to froth milk at home without an espresso machine, and they'll work for this drink too.Īll you need to do to build a macchiato is to pull a shot of espresso, and spoon over a bit of milk foam on the top and you're done. Where a cappuccino needs you to know how to properly steam and froth milk, aside from pull a shot, a macchiato is simpler.Īll you need to know is how to pull an espresso shot, and have just the most basic understanding of frothing milk.īecause you only need a little milk, just a teaspoon of milk foam. I would argue that the macchiato is the most beginner-friendly espresso drink between the two. It s up to you how many shots of espresso go into your drink, thus how much caffeine there is. So to answer you question, macchiato and cappuccinos are the same in terms of caffeine. If you want more caffeine, you simply double the shot, or ask for two shots, or a triple shot.įor a cappuccino this will make the drink even larger, and will have a very strong coffee flavor.įor a macchiato, it might be too strong of a drink since there will be still just one teaspoon of milk foam on top to take the edge off. This is because both are prepared using one shot of espresso, a standard single shot. Latte macchiatos aren't taken into account, since they're not the standard version.īoth cappuccinos and macchiatos are equal in caffeine. So if you're used to the big, milky version and that's what you like, then you should always ask for a latte macchiato.Īlso, for reference for the rest of this post and comparison, we're talking about cappuccino and espresso macchiato. If you're confused, it might be because big coffee chains offer latte macchiato under the simple names of macchiato, omitting the latte part. Meaning 'marked milk', because 70/ of the drink is milk (steamed and foamed, mostly foamed) and the rest is just a shot of espresso poured in last. If you're wondering about the one that's very much like a latte, well that's a latte macchiato. The original, traditional way of serving macchiato and it's what most folks mean when talking about this drink. If you wank into a coffee shop and order just 'a macchiato', you'll get an espresso macchiato. There's two ways you can get a macchiato. You get a bold espresso flavor, and it's only just a little toned down by the teaspoon of milk foam on top. This makes the drink very small - about 1 oz/33 ml, just enough for the espresso shot and the dollop of milk foam. Thus, the espresso is 'marked' with a dash of milk foam. This is because the word ' macchiato' means 'stained/marked/spotted' in Italian. The espresso flavor is pretty muted, with a fair amount of milk but not often sweetened or flavored.Ĭappuccinos are more of a morning drink, due to the high amount of milk used, which lends a slower wake-up (as opposed to a jolt) What is a macchiato ?Ī macchiato is an espresso based drink that uses frothed milk as well, but no steamed milk.Īctually, it's just a shot of espresso with a dollop of milk foam on top. This results in a milky, creamy drink that's got a decorative top (like with latte art). There is generally a ratio of 1:3 espresso to milk, though some coffee shops can get a ratio as nigh as 1:5. Cappuccino is more of a morning drinkĪ cappuccino is an espresso based drink that also uses steamed and frothed milk. ![]() A macchiato has a much bolder coffee flavor Main differences between cappuccino and macchiato. ![]() If asked, submit a picture of the front of the check along with the tracking number in your Tesla Account.ĭelivery cannot take place until we receive the funding in full. The Adults are found in the Grand Reef, Blood Kelp Zones, and the Void, and are much larger than their smaller counterparts. They also seem a bit less aggressive, but that might just be me. The Juveniles are found in the Lost River and are a bit bigger than a Reaper, but they don’t do as much damage and move comparably slowly. Ghost Leviathans can come in two sizes: Juvenile and Adult. Think of it as using different mathematical methods to solve the same problem.ħ easy ways to reduce a video’s file size Create a ZIP file ![]() Different codecs handle compression in different ways. The codec is held within the container and is responsible for applying the compression. Common examples of a container would be MP4 and MOV files types. The container is often what people are referring to when they say the “file format”. There are two key elements of a video file during the encoding process: the container and the video codec. Video encoding is the process of applying compression and rendering out or converting a video file from one file format to another. Variable Bitrate is, essentially, a form of video compression itself that results in smaller file sizes than Constant Bitrate. Variable Bitrate, however, will adjust the rate depending on the complexity of the video from moment to moment. Constant Bitrate maintains a consistent rate for the duration of the video. It’s also possible to encode a video using Constant Bitrate or Variable Bitrate. Lower bitrate means less data is transferred and, thus, smaller file sizes. Higher bitrates produce higher video quality but also make for larger file sizes. In terms of video bitrate, a higher bitrate means a larger amount of video data can be transferred per second. This is typically measured in bits per second (bps), kilobits per second (Kbps), or megabits per second (Mbps). Bitrateīitrate relates to the amount of data being transferred at a given time. Multiply that by the number of frames per second, commonly between 24 and 60 frames per second, and you can start to see why uncompressed video files are so large. That’s over 2 million pixels per frame of video, with each pixel holding unique data identifying the color and brightness. ![]() 1080p high-definition video, for example, has an image size that is 1,920 pixels wide and 1,080 pixels tall. When people refer to a video in terms of “1920 by 1080” or “4K,” they are referring to the video’s resolution. Resolution is the actual size, in pixels, of your video image. Knowing these will help you to slim those file sizes down without turning your video blocky, or muddy, or petulant and self-absorbed. There are three primary factors that dictate video file sizes: the resolution, the bitrate, and the encoding. The algorithms behind video compression may be complex but it’s not hard to understand what makes a video file larger or smaller. There are a few different video codecs, all of which are responsible for compressing (and decompressing) the video in unique ways. You do this using codec software, which decides what information is required for the video to retain its quality and what information can be discarded. Video compression is the process of reducing video file size while still retaining the necessary video data. |
